Chinese New Year -:-The Chinese calendar is based on the phases of the moon, and years are grouped not into decades as in the Western world, but into cycles of 12, each of the years being named after 12 animals who joined Buddha for a feast around his table before he left this world. The Rat arrived first, and this year 2008 – 2009 sees the start of a new 12-year cycle.

Rat Years are excellent periods for new beginnings and fresh starts, and are a time of regeneration and renewal.
